Build A Rocket Boy Expands Portfolio with Acquisition of PlayFusion

In a strategic move, Build A Rocket Boy has acquired PlayFusion, with the terms of the deal remaining undisclosed. This acquisition will enable PlayFusion to contribute its expertise to Build A Rocket Boy's high-profile projects, such as MindsEye, as well as its open-world platform Everywhere and the innovative content creation tool Arcadia. As part of this deal, Mark Gerhard, the former CEO and CTO of PlayFusion, has been appointed as the co-CEO of Build A Rocket Boy. Leslie Benzies, CEO and founder of Build A Rocket Boy, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "The fusion of our teams will elevate Build A Rocket Boy to unprecedented heights, driven by PlayFusion's inventive approach to immersive entertainment." Gerhard also shared his perspective, saying, "It's an extraordinary opportunity to collaborate with Leslie and the esteemed team at Build A Rocket Boy during this pivotal moment in the gaming industry. Our combined strengths will not only fulfill our promises but also revolutionize the landscape by making high-quality game development more accessible." The core PlayFusion team, with nearly two decades of experience, is poised to pioneer a new era in gaming. Earlier in the year, Build A Rocket Boy secured $110 million in funding through a Series D round, led by RedBird Capital and supported by notable investors including NetEase Games and Galaxy Interactive. Despite facing layoffs in February that impacted an unspecified number of employees, Build A Rocket Boy continues to drive forward with strategic expansions.
