Rocksteady Studios to Discontinue Development of Suicide Squad Less Than a Year After Launch
Rocksteady Studios has officially announced that it will be ceasing support for Suicide Squad, merely months after the game's initial release. According to a recent blog post on the game's official website, the developer confirmed that the upcoming fourth season, slated for release in the new year, will be the game's last. The eighth episode, scheduled to launch on January 14, will be the final installment of post-launch content. Although the game will still be available for purchase and play after January 2025, no additional DLC or content will be developed. Furthermore, an offline mode is set to launch on December 10, allowing players to access the game without an internet connection. Warner Bros. had previously acknowledged that Suicide Squad failed to meet expectations, particularly in comparison to the launch of Hogwarts Legacy the previous year. The company's Studios division, which encompasses television, film, and gaming, suffered a $200 million loss during Q1 2024, with Suicide Squad being a significant contributing factor. The games revenue also declined by 41% in the following quarter, partially due to the comparison with Hogwarts Legacy. Reports subsequently emerged detailing the various issues that arose during Suicide Squad's development, including frequent changes in vision, perfectionist leadership, and Rocksteady's lack of experience with multiplayer and live service games. This was followed by a round of layoffs at Rocksteady Studios in September.
