Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake Leads November Sales in Japan
The HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest 3, developed by Square Enix, debuted at the top of Japan's November charts, selling 712,188 copies on the Nintendo Switch within a two-week period. It also secured the second spot on the PlayStation 5, with 200,944 units sold, resulting in a combined total of 913,000 copies sold since its release on November 14, 2024. This surpasses the sales of Dragon Quest 7: Journey of the Cursed King, which sold 733,000 copies in the same timeframe after its launch in 2015 on the 3DS. Other notable games include Super Mario Party Jamboree, which dropped to third place with 168,000 units sold, and Mario and Luigi: Brothership, which debuted at fourth with 88,539 units sold. Square Enix dominated the market with a 54.1% share, valued at ¥6.5 billion ($43.2 million), marking a 30.9% lead over Nintendo following the success of Dragon Quest 3. The release of the PS5 Pro on November 7 significantly boosted PS5 sales, which more than tripled compared to October, with 102,092 units of the PS5 Pro sold and a total of 151,000 units across all editions. However, the Nintendo Switch remained the top-selling console, with combined sales of 255,401 units across its models, and it was also the best-selling format with 1.5 million boxed games sold during this period.
