Torn Banner Studios, Creator of Chivalry, Undergoes Staff Reduction

Canadian game developer Torn Banner Studios has confirmed a round of layoffs affecting a currently undisclosed number of employees. In a statement released on LinkedIn, Steve Piggott, the company's CEO and creative director, attributed the move to a broader restructuring effort within the studio. As part of the severance package, all affected staff members will receive compensation and are permitted to retain their work computers. Piggott also mentioned that the company is actively assisting those impacted in finding new roles at other game development studios. This development comes on the heels of the early access launch of the studio's latest title, the zombie-themed shooter No More Room In Hell 2. Despite the layoffs, Piggott stressed that Torn Banner Studios remains dedicated to the game's continued development, with plans for a full version 1.0 release slated for 2025. Additionally, Piggott assured that the multiplayer game Chivalry 2, which received its final update earlier in the year, will not be impacted by the layoffs, and its servers will continue to operate normally. Piggott expressed his appreciation for the contributions of the departing staff, stating: "The current state of Torn Banner Studios is a direct result of the hard work, passion, and achievements of these exceptional individuals." He further added: "We are truly saddened to bid farewell to some of our outstanding team members and extend our sincerest wishes for their future success."
