Tencent Takes Control of Kuro Games with Majority Share Acquisition

Chinese gaming conglomerate Tencent has acquired a controlling stake in Kuro Games, a Chinese game development studio. As per a report by Gematsu, Tencent purchased a 37% stake in Kuro Games from Hero Entertainment, with the terms of the deal remaining undisclosed, thereby increasing its total ownership to 51.4%. Consequently, Tencent has become the sole external shareholder of the studio. In an internal communication, Kuro Games assured that despite Tencent's increased shareholding, which now surpasses the shares held by the company itself, its approach to operating independently will not be altered. Tencent initially invested in Kuro Games in 2023, whereas Hero Entertainment has been providing support to the developer since 2018. Established in 2014, Kuro Games' most recent release, Wuthering Waves, was launched in May 2024.
