PS2 Achieves Milestone of 160 Million Lifetime Sales

The PlayStation 2 has reached a global sales figure of 160 million units, solidifying its position as the best-selling console of all time. Sony has recently updated its PlayStation history webpage to include this achievement. First released in March 2000, the PS2 last achieved a notable sales milestone in 2011, with 150 million units sold. In contrast, Sony's next best-selling console, the PlayStation 4, has sold 117 million units as of May 2023. According to its latest financial reports, Sony has sold 65 million PlayStation 5 consoles since its launch in November 2020. Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch has sold 146 million units since its release in 2017, as reported in Nintendo's recent financial statements. However, the Nintendo DS remains the company's most successful hardware, with 154 million units sold.
