2K Games' Motion Capture Studio Employees Vote to Form Union
In a significant move, the staff at 2K Games' California-based motion capture facility have opted to form a union. The decision was made following a supervised election, with 71% of voters in favour of unionisation. The newly-formed union, 2K Mocap Union, will be affiliated with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, marking a first for the video game industry. The studio, located in Petaluma, California, has contributed to several prominent franchises, including NBA 2K, WWE 2K, and BioShock. With unionisation now in place, employees will engage in contract negotiations with 2K management, seeking improved job security, fair compensation, and enhanced working conditions. A statement from 2K motion capture animator Matthew Peterson expressed the team's commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for all stakeholders. IATSE International president Matthew D. Loeb also commented on the victory, highlighting its potential to inspire other entertainment industry workers to take similar action and secure better treatment through collective bargaining.
