Kadokawa, Parent Company of FromSoftware, Confirms Sony's Acquisition Interest

Kadokawa, the parent company of notable gaming studios FromSoftware and Spike Chunsoft, has publicly acknowledged that Sony has shown interest in acquiring its shares. This confirmation comes after a letter of intent was received from Sony, as disclosed by Kadokawa's CEO, Takeshi Natsuno, in a statement posted on the company's website. The statement clarifies that while the letter of intent has been received, no final decision regarding the acquisition has been made at this time. This revelation follows a report by Reuters suggesting that Sony was engaged in talks to acquire Kadokawa, which led to a significant surge in Kadokawa's shares, reaching an all-time high. Kadokawa's portfolio includes notable game development studios such as Acquire, co-developer of Octopath Traveler, and Gotcha Gotcha Games, known for RPG Maker. Notably, Sony already holds approximately 14% of FromSoftware's shares, with Kadokawa owning 70% and Tencent holding around 16.5%.
