Merlin Entertainments Announces $110m Investment in Minecraft-Themed Experiences
A new partnership between Microsoft and Merlin Entertainments will introduce Minecraft-themed attractions, hotel rooms, and retail stores in the UK and US. With an initial investment of over $110 million, the first two attractions are slated to open in 2026 and 2027 in existing theme parks or city centers. The collaboration aims to expand globally, offering immersive experiences that bring the popular video game to life. According to Microsoft's vice president of franchise development, Kayleen Walters, the partnership combines the digital presence of Minecraft with Merlin's expertise in location-based experiences. Merlin Entertainments chief executive Scott O'Neil expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the potential for growth and the significance of partnering with a leading video game brand. This initiative follows similar collaborations, such as Nintendo's partnership with Universal, which has resulted in the creation of Super Nintendo World areas in Universal theme parks.
