Roblox Enhances Safety Features and Parental Controls

Roblox has introduced significant updates to its safety systems and parental controls, aiming to provide a safer environment for children under 13. The changes include remote parental control, updated communication settings, and the introduction of content labels for experiences. Parents can now remotely monitor and manage their child's account, setting limits on spending and screen time, as well as accessing their child's friend list and chat features. Users under 13 are no longer allowed to use direct messaging without parental consent and will have limited access to broadcasting messages in games and experiences. The new content labels will provide users with information about the type of content they can expect in an experience, with users under nine only able to access minimal or mild content by default. Experiences with restricted content labels will remain blocked for younger users until they turn 17. These updates have been supported by partner organizations, including the National Association for Media Literacy Education and the Family Online Safety Institute. According to Roblox's chief safety officer, Matt Kaufman, 'Today's launch represents the next stage in the evolution of our approach to safety, following the rollout of over 30 new safety feature enhancements this year.' The Family Online Safety CEO, Stephan Balkam, added that 'Roblox's enhanced parental controls are a considerable leap forward, providing families with the confidence they need to foster a secure and enriching online environment.' The updates are part of Roblox's ongoing efforts to enhance safety features, which began last month with the announcement of changes to chat and content restrictions, as well as the introduction of a new type of parental account.
