Sam Lake to Receive Prestigious Honour at New York Game Awards

At the 14th annual New York Game Awards, Remedy's esteemed creative director, Sam Lake, will be bestowed with the prestigious Andrew Yoon Legend Award. This distinguished award is presented to individuals who have left an indelible mark on the gaming world. Previous recipients of this honour include notable figures such as Neil Druckmann, Hideo Kojima, Phil Spencer, and Tim Schafer. According to Harold Goldberg, president and founder of the New York Video Game Critics Circle, "Sam Lake's influence on the worlds he creates is unmistakable, and his 20-year tenure at Remedy has had a profound impact on our members and interns." Lake's remarkable career at Remedy began in 1995 as a writer for the studio's inaugural game, Death Rally. He went on to assume multiple roles in the development of Max Payne, including lead writer and serving as the face model for the titular character. Lake is also credited with creating the acclaimed Alan Wake franchise, which debuted in 2010, and he co-directed its 2023 sequel, while also providing motion capture for the character Alex Casey. Additionally, Lake co-directed Quantum Break and penned the script for Control. The 14th annual New York Game Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on January 21, 2025, at the SVA Theatre.
