MTG Set to Purchase Plarium in $620 Million Deal

Modern Times Group has entered into an agreement to purchase Plarium, the developer behind Raid: Shadow Legends, from its current owner, Aristocrat Leisure Limited, in a deal valued at $620 million, with $20 million to be paid in 2026. The acquisition is expected to close in the first quarter of 2025, resulting in MTG's total annual sales exceeding SEK 12 billion ($1.1 billion). According to MTG's CEO, Maria Redin, the acquisition brings a successful portfolio of live games to the company, including Raid: Shadow Legends, as well as three other strong live games and a promising pipeline of new games. The purchase was also motivated by Plarium's robust user acquisition and monetization tools. Founded in 2009, Plarium is best known for its mobile RPG Raid: Shadow Legends and was previously acquired by Aristocrat in 2017. In the year ending September 30, 2024, the developer generated $613 million in revenue, representing a 1.2% year-over-year increase. This move is part of MTG's aggressive merger and acquisition strategy, following recent purchases of AutoAttack Games and Snowprint Studios.
