Enhanced Safety Measures for Minors on Roblox

Roblox has unveiled a series of new safety features designed to safeguard users under the age of 13. According to the Roblox Creator Hub, two key changes will be rolled out in the coming months. These include the moderation of unrated experiences and restricted access to social interactions and user-generated content. "It's essential for parents and young users to have access to accurate information about the experiences they're engaging with," the company stated. "We're also updating our policies to tackle user behavior that could potentially put our youngest users at risk." Experiences without a rating will be inaccessible to children under 13. By December 3, 2024, creators must complete a questionnaire to ensure their experiences meet the necessary standards for young users. After this date, unrated experiences will be removed from search results and will no longer be playable or discoverable by users under 13. Starting November 18, social interactions and free-form 2D content, such as drawings and written posts, will only be available to users over 13. Last month, Roblox introduced updates to its parental controls, including revised content maturity settings and a new account type that enables parents to closely monitor their child's activity. Roblox has previously faced criticism over its handling of minor protection on the platform. A report by Hindenburg Research in October alleged that the company failed to adequately safeguard minors. The company disputed these claims, emphasizing its commitment to addressing inappropriate behavior and content with the utmost seriousness.
