Amplitude Studios Breaks Free from Sega

In a significant move, Sega Europe has confirmed that it is parting ways with Amplitude Studios, with the latter regaining its independence after a management buyout by its staff. This development comes after a period of close consultation between the two parties. As a result, the Paris-based studio will now focus on developing its own intellectual properties as an independent game developer. The decision marks the culmination of the structural reforms underway at Sega's European branch. According to Romain de Waubert de Genlis, Amplitude's studio director, 'With strong franchises backing us, our team is dedicated to creating exceptional games. This new chapter enables us to be more adaptable while staying true to our original vision, allowing us to push boundaries and foster an even stronger connection with our community.' Jurgen Post, COO of West Studios and SOE regional managing director, added, 'Our eight-year collaboration has yielded exciting projects, and this move ensures Amplitude's continued success while Sega pursues its long-term business objectives.' Sega initially acquired Amplitude in 2016, with the strategy games developer seeking more support and a broader audience at the time. Recently, Sega has undergone significant changes in its European operations, including the cancellation of Creative Assembly's Hyenas and layoffs, as well as the sale of Relic and job cuts across its UK studios.
