Nintendo Switch 2 to Feature Backwards Compatibility

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will be compatible with existing Switch games, the company has announced. This means players can enjoy their current library on the new console. Additionally, Nintendo Online services will be available on the next-generation device. The news was revealed during Nintendo's H1 2024 financial results, which also indicated a decline in sales. According to Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, a wide range of Switch titles will be playable on the successor console, with more details on backwards compatibility to be shared later. Furukawa emphasized the importance of utilizing the Nintendo Account system, ensuring a seamless transition to the new console. The announcement comes as Nintendo reported a 34% drop in net sales and lowered its full-year expectations due to declining hardware and software sales.
