Atari Expands Retro Portfolio with Acquisition of Transport Tycoon IP

Atari has finalized an agreement with renowned game developer Chris Sawyer to acquire the rights to his iconic game, Transport Tycoon. Although specific plans for the IP have not been disclosed, Atari has expressed its commitment to preserving and expanding this beloved simulation game, potentially through new digital and physical releases, development of new content, or exploring merchandising opportunities. Originally released in 1994, with an updated version the following year, Transport Tycoon was last released as a mobile game in 2013. Atari's chairman and CEO, Wade Rosen, stated, "We are thrilled that Chris Sawyer has entrusted us with Transport Tycoon, and we are dedicated to honoring his pioneering creation while advancing it for the future." This acquisition adds to Atari's existing portfolio, which includes publishing rights to Chris Sawyer's Locomotion and the RollerCoaster Tycoon franchise. In recent years, Atari has been actively investing in the acquisition of retro brands and IPs, including the Intellivision brand and over 200 games, as well as popular indie titles such as Surgeon Simulator and Totally Reliable Delivery Service.
