Apex Legends Blocks Linux Platforms, Including Steam Deck, to Combat Cheating

In a bid to curb cheating, Respawn Entertainment has restricted access to Apex Legends for players using Linux operating systems, which includes those playing on the Steam Deck. The decision, announced in a blog post, aims to prevent the use of exploits and cheats that have been identified as originating from Linux OS. Respawn explained that while this move will affect a limited number of players, it believes the restriction will significantly reduce cheating instances in the game. The company weighed the impact on legitimate Linux and Steam Deck users against the need to protect the larger player base, concluding that the benefits of blocking Linux access outweigh the drawbacks. Notably, Steam Deck users can still play Apex Legends if they switch to Windows, and players on other supported platforms, including those playing via Steam on PC, will not be affected by this change.
