Red Barrels Collaborates with Lionsgate Studios on Film Adaptation of Outlast Horror Series

The Outlast video game series is set to be adapted into a movie, marking the latest gaming franchise to make the leap to the big screen. Red Barrels, the developer behind the series, has partnered with Lionsgate Studios, with Roy Lee, known for producing It and Strange Darling, taking the lead on the project. JT Petty, who has been heavily involved in crafting the narratives of the games, will be working on the screenplay. The Outlast series, which debuted in 2013 with a survival horror game, has since expanded to include a prequel, sequel, and a multiplayer horror spin-off, The Outlast Trials, which recently exited early access. According to David Chateauneuf, co-founder and creative director of Red Barrels, "As huge fans of horror in all its forms, we have immense respect for Roy Lee and Lionsgate's body of work. The influence of classic and modern horror movies on our franchise is undeniable, and the opportunity to collaborate with horror legends on an Outlast film is a dream - or rather, a nightmare - come true."
