ProbablyMonsters Reduces Workforce by Approximately 50 Employees Following Battle Barge Project Cancellation
ProbablyMonsters has confirmed the layoffs of around 50 staff members. The news was shared by senior technical artist Mic Marvin on LinkedIn, who also revealed that they were among those affected by the decision. Similar announcements were made by other former employees, including Battle Barge designer Ed Byrne, senior environment artist Carol T., 3D character artist Tamara Corbett, and 3D character animator Dalton Downing. ProbablyMonsters stated that the move is part of a broader effort to 'realign to support smaller, more agile teams and projects,' which the company believes will better serve the needs of players and the market. The company expressed its sympathy for those impacted, saying, 'Our hearts go out to everyone affected as we navigate the new realities of the gaming landscape as an independent company.' This development comes on the heels of Sony's announcement to close both Neon Koi and Firewalk Studios, with CEO Hermen Hulst citing the need to 'evaluate our games portfolio and status of our projects to ensure we are meeting near and long-term business priorities' as the reason behind the decision.
