GameSpot Faces Further Staff Reductions
GameSpot, a media outlet owned by Fandom, has initiated a new wave of job cuts. Although the company has not formally confirmed the news, earlier today, Giant Bomb announced the cancellation of its streams for the day, citing a resumption of activities tomorrow. Subsequently, reports of staff layoffs began to emerge. Dave Klein, a host and senior producer, revealed on X/Twitter that he had been laid off from GameSpot, expressing his availability for new opportunities as a video producer and senior producer, while also highlighting his skills in programming with C# and Unity, as well as game design. When questioned about the circumstances surrounding his departure, Klein stated that it was due to a significant layoff, affecting multiple individuals. Senior editor Chris Hayner also took to social media, offering his services, which include writing, editing, managing, and working with video, marketing, and social media, among other skills. Senior producer Jake Dekker confirmed another round of layoffs at Fandom, expressing concern for affected colleagues and frustration with the industry. The extent of the layoffs and whether Fandom has also been impacted remain unclear. This development follows previous redundancies announced in January 2023 and January 2024, which also affected GameSpot's sister site Giant Bomb.
