Activision Blizzard QA Staff Protest Mandatory Office Return

Activision Blizzard's QA team in Minnesota has staged a walkout in opposition to the company's policy requiring employees to return to the office. According to a report by Eurogamer, the ABetterABK workers' group, supported by the Communications Workers of America union, alleges that the company is denying accommodations to force certain employees to quit. The group claims that Activision Blizzard is insisting that staff work from the office, even those with severe health conditions and doctor-ordered work-from-home arrangements. ABetterABK also stated on social media that the return-to-office mandate was imposed without employee input. The company allegedly refuses to provide remote work options, even when it is the only viable solution for employees, due to this restrictive policy. In response, Activision Blizzard released a statement acknowledging employees' right to express their opinions and acknowledging that the return to the office has been challenging for some. The company claimed to engage in discussions with employees requesting accommodations and views this as an ongoing conversation during bargaining talks. This development follows Activision Blizzard's discontinuation of its hybrid work model for QA staff in several locations in January. Recently, over 700 Ubisoft France employees also went on strike due to disagreements over the company's return-to-office policy and compensation.
