EA Achieves Record Quarter Thanks to Successful Sports Titles

Electronic Arts has released its Q2 FY25 financial results, revealing a significant increase in net bookings fueled by its thriving EA Sports portfolio. The company's performance surpassed its own guidance, leading to a revised outlook for the full fiscal year. Key highlights for the quarter ending September 30, 2024, include: Revenue of $2.05 billion, representing an 8% year-over-year increase; Net income of $294 million, a 26% decline from the previous year; and Net bookings of $2.08 billion, up 15% year-over-year. Despite a decline in net income, the company's revenue and net bookings exceeded expectations. The EA Sports FC franchise has seen substantial growth, with a 130% increase in players worldwide, driven by the release of EA Sports FC 25 and the popularity of FC Mobile and FC Online. The launch of EA College Football 25 was also highly successful, becoming the best-selling HD title in North America and contributing to three of the top ten best-selling games in the quarter. Madden NFL 25 is on track to exceed $1 billion in net bookings for the fiscal year, with a 140% increase in total hours played year-over-year. The Sims 4 saw increased engagement, resulting in higher-than-expected net bookings, while Apex Legends experienced a decline in net bookings following the launch of its Season 22 Battle Pass. Looking ahead, EA has revised its full-year guidance, expecting net revenue of $7.4-7.7 billion, net income of $1.02-1.15 billion, and net bookings of $7.5-7.8 billion. CFO Stuart Canfield expressed confidence in the company's ability to outperform the market and achieve significant growth through FY27.
