Capcom Reports Progress Despite Sales Decline in First Half of Fiscal Year

Capcom has announced its financial results for the first half of the fiscal year 2024/25, noting that it is making 'good progress' towards achieving its annual targets. The company attributes this progress to the successful launch of new titles and the growth of its existing catalog, with its arcade operations and amusement equipment businesses also contributing to profitability. However, due to the timing of new title releases, including a new Monster Hunter game, Capcom expects the majority of its results to be realized in the second half of the year. For the six-month period ending September 30, 2024, the company reported net sales of ¥56.4 billion ($368 million), a 25% decline from the previous year, operating income of ¥20.7 billion ($135 million), a 39% decrease, and net income of ¥15.2 billion ($99 million), a 40% decrease. Despite these declines, Capcom confirmed the release of six new titles during the period and noted 'healthy growth' of its catalog titles, particularly the Monster Hunter brand. As a result, the company is maintaining its full-year forecast and aims to achieve 12 consecutive years of growth driven by the steady expansion of its digital content business. Notably, 54% of Capcom's sales come from PC games, representing a 6% increase from the previous year, while console sales remain steady at 40%. Total unit sales decreased by 11.4% to 20.05 million, with overseas sales accounting for nearly 85% of all sales and digital sales comprising 93.7% of total unit sales. Capcom also provided an update on the lifetime sales of its key franchises, including Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter, which have sold 163 million, 105 million, and 55 million units, respectively.
