Steady Expansion in Global Gaming Industry Mergers and Acquisitions, Reveals Drake Star Report for Q3 2024
The global gaming industry has witnessed a consistent increase in merger and acquisition activities over the past four quarters, with a total of 56 announced deals amounting to $2.5 billion in disclosed transaction value during the period. According to the Drake Star Global Gaming Report for Q3 2024, which provides an in-depth analysis of deal-making within the gaming sector over the last three months, public markets are experiencing a resurgence, with a 10.2% growth over the first nine months of 2024. The $2.5 billion figure does not account for undisclosed agreements, such as Krafton's acquisition of Tango Gameworks and the Hi-Fi Rush IP from Xbox. The report highlights 56 formally disclosed M&A deals during this period, marking a 70% increase compared to the same quarter last year. Furthermore, $1.1 billion was raised through private financing via 181 deals. Andreessen Horowitz and Bitkraft are identified as the most active gaming venture capital firms over the past 12 months, followed by Play Ventures. The research confirms that Playtika's acquisition of SuperPlay for $700 million at close ($1.95 billion including earn-out) was the largest deal of the quarter, with notable acquirers including Tencent, Warner Bros. Discovery, Krafton, Capcom, Keywords, Nazara, and Infinite Reality. Looking ahead, the analysis indicates that M&A activity is expected to intensify for the remainder of the year and into the next, driven by declining interest rates and a gradual recovery in the public gaming market.
