Gamescom Asia has achieved a record-breaking attendance, attracting 41,013 visitors to the Singapore-based event last week, marking a 20% increase in attendance, according to organiser Koelnmesse. This year's event saw 177 exhibitors participate, compared to 136 in 2023. The event also witnessed a significant rise in international participation from countries including Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, and the US. The B2B conference featured over 80 speakers, including former Sony executive Shawn Layden, who shared his insights on the decline of AA studios and the over-reliance on blockbuster titles. The indie showcase boasted over 60 titles on the expo floor. Gamescom Asia is set to return to Singapore next year, from October 30 to November 2. Project director Daria La Valle expressed her excitement, stating, 'We are proud to provide a platform that fosters innovation, creativity, and collaboration in the Asian gaming ecosystem.' La Valle highlighted the strong engagement between developers, publishers, and fans, and noted that Southeast Asia is a driving force in the future of gaming. In an interview ahead of the show, La Valle discussed the event's role in providing a platform for Southeast Asian developers to showcase their talents. Further interviews from Gamescom Asia, including discussions with the Singapore Games Association and Xbox, will be published on GamesIndustry.biz in the coming days.
