Over 120 Games from 49 Companies Have Signed SAG-AFTRA Agreements

As SAG-AFTRA prepares to resume negotiations with video game developers, the union has announced that more than 120 games from 49 companies have signed either tiered-budget or interim agreements. The key point of contention has been the union's demand for proper consent, fair compensation, and transparency regarding the use of artificial intelligence for all members working under the contract. With 49 companies on board, SAG-AFTRA notes that these new contracts include the same foundational AI protections that members are seeking in the Interactive Media Agreement, demonstrating that these provisions are both fair and achievable. This development provides employment opportunities for members during the work stoppage. According to Interactive Media Agreement Negotiating Committee chair, Sarah Elmaleh, 'humane protections for actors against AI exploitation are not an unreasonable ask,' and the success of these contracts shows that most companies agree. SAG-AFTRA national executive director and chief negotiator, Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, added, 'We've had over 120 contracts signed and there's no sign of things slowing down.' As negotiations resume, the goal is to reach an agreement on the Interactive Media Agreement, with a focus on fair, ethical, and responsible contract terms, including the use of artificial intelligence. The decision to resume negotiations comes after three months of strikes and industrial action, with SAG-AFTRA set to meet with representatives from major gaming companies. The union initially voted to strike due to unresolved concerns over rights and protections related to the industry's use of AI technologies.
