PopReach Shutters Vancouver Studio Following Mobile Games Business Sale
PopReach has ceased operations at its Vancouver studio, effectively exiting the video game industry. The shutdown was announced by Marina Sapunova, vice president of game studios, through a LinkedIn post. The exact number of employees affected remains unclear. This development follows the sale of PopReach's India studio and its portfolio of free-to-play games, including Smurf's Magic Match, Gardens of Time, and Kitchen Scramble, to Phoenix Games for $9.8 million in cash back in April. According to Ionik's latest financial reports, the sale of its video games business has been confirmed. With PopReach's website now only listing studios in Bangalore and Vancouver, it appears the entire PopReach Games operation has been wound down. Founded in 2015, PopReach previously had studios in Toronto and London, and managed select titles from other companies like Kabam's Kingdoms of Camelot, in addition to its own published games.
