Twitch Removes Game Developer Badge from Chat Streams

Twitch has eliminated a badge that previously identified game developers in live chat streams. According to a recent blog post, the badge is no longer visible, and its corresponding toggle has been deactivated in the developer console. The move was motivated by a surge in organisation requests, both legitimate and illegitimate, which caused significant delays in the review process and a substantial backlog. The badge's removal is intended to restore order to Twitch's developer organisation process, which enables studios to create extensions for analysing game performance on the platform. For developers who submitted requests prior to November 1, 2024, including those with game ownership claims, reviews will be completed by December 1, 2024. Requests without game ownership claims will be denied, but applicants are encouraged to reapply. While there are currently no plans to reinstate the badge, it may be reconsidered in the future due to its potential to facilitate communication between developers and gamers.
