Surgent Studios Puts Game Development on Hold Due to Funding Shortfall

Due to financial constraints, Surgent Studios has been forced to place its entire game development team on temporary hiatus, putting a significant number of employees at risk of redundancy. The news was announced through a social media statement, in which the studio expressed regret over having to issue redundancy notices to its staff. Originally founded as Silver Rain Studios in 2020 before rebranding, Surgent Studios was co-founded by actor Abubakar Salim, known for his roles in Assassin's Creed Origins and House of the Dragon, who was also the driving force behind the studio's inaugural title, Tales of Kenzera: Zau. Despite receiving positive reviews and support from Electronic Arts' EA Originals label, the game reportedly struggled to achieve commercial success, leading to the layoffs of over a dozen employees in June, just three months after its launch. The game development team at Surgent Studios had been working on a new, darker project, and the studio is currently seeking a partner to collaborate on this prototype. Additionally, the studio has promised to release a couple of exciting updates for Tales of Kenzera: Zau in the future.
