UK Indie Game Developers to Receive £510,000 in Lottery Funding

The BFI National Lottery Innovation Challenge is set to allocate £510,000 to four pioneering projects within the UK gaming sector. The primary objective of this funding is to empower independent gaming businesses to develop open datasets and innovative tools, technologies, and methodologies that will support underrepresented developers. The initial four projects to receive funding are: The Games Insight Database, a collaborative effort between Into Games CIC, Games Jobs Live, and Birds Eye View, which seeks to provide independent studios and developers with access to vital information on workforce, skills, salary benchmarking, and funding opportunities. UKIE and Open Knowledge across Research and Entertainment's UK Video Games Econometrics project will provide valuable insights into the economic, social, and cultural significance of the UK gaming industry, with the goal of articulating its value. Code Coven's Business Development Accelerator, known as Aurora, aims to enhance the business acumen and financial knowledge of underrepresented developers, while facilitating connections between developers, publishers, and investors. The Access to Market: Self-Publishing Toolkit, led by Film London, is a two-year initiative that will provide business development workshops to a group of up to 12 independent gaming companies, with the intention of creating a comprehensive toolkit. According to Rishi Coupland, BFI Director of Research and Industry Innovation, 'We are delighted to be supporting these four projects, each of which proposes novel solutions to the challenges facing the UK's video games industry.' Collectively, these projects have the potential to drive further creative and commercial success within the video games industry, with a focus on data, insights, market access, and diversity.
