Keywords Studios Expands with Acquisition of Certain Affinity

Keywords Studios has finalized the acquisition of US-based game developer Certain Affinity, marking a significant expansion of its development operations. Founded in 2006 by a team of former Bungie employees, Certain Affinity has built a reputation for its work on high-profile AAA titles, including the Halo and Call of Duty franchises, as well as Hogwarts Legacy and Gotham Knights. The studio will retain its existing management team, led by founder and CEO Max Hoberman and president and COO Paul Sams, who oversee a workforce of 180 people across the US and Canada. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions and will be funded through a combination of upfront cash and an earn-out component tied to Certain Affinity's future performance. According to Hoberman, the partnership with Keywords provides a supportive environment for the team, allowing for careful expansion of co-development activities and refinement of lead development capabilities. Keywords CEO Bertrand Bodson welcomed Certain Affinity to the group, highlighting the respect for their business and reputation, and anticipating a strong partnership to drive growth in the Create division. This move follows Keywords' acquisition of UK developer Wushu Studios in August, demonstrating the company's ongoing commitment to strategic expansion.
