Game Freak Reveals Employee Data Compromise in Recent Cyber Attack

Game Freak has acknowledged a data breach in August 2024 that led to the unauthorized disclosure of staff information. According to a statement released by the company, as translated by Nintendo Everything, approximately 2,606 records of current, former, and contract employees were accessed. The statement expressed regret for the distress caused, stating: "Game Freak detected the leak of personal data of employees and other individuals due to unauthorized server access by a third party. We offer sincere apologies for the inconvenience and concern this has caused to all parties involved." The company assured that it has rebuilt and examined its server and will enhance security measures to prevent similar incidents. Additionally, the breach allegedly exposed codenames for upcoming projects, including the Switch 2 and new Pokémon titles, as well as source code for games like Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, meeting notes, and details about unreleased content, as reported by Nintendo Life.
