European Video Game Sales See 20% Surge in September

According to the latest GSD figures, a total of 17.6 million PC and console games were sold across Europe last month, representing a significant increase of over 20% compared to September 2023. The top spot was taken by EA Sports FC 25, although its launch was slightly softer than the previous year's, with sales 2% lower in the first two weeks. However, the premium version of the game saw a nearly 10% increase in sales compared to the year before. The Crew 2 from Ubisoft came in second, thanks to an aggressive promotion that effectively gave the game away for free. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 took third place, becoming the fastest-selling Warhammer game to date and on track to become the best-selling Warhammer game of all time in Europe. Astro Bot from PlayStation also had a decent launch, with sales 34% higher than Sonic Frontiers and 52% higher than Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time after four weeks. Other new releases, such as NBA 2K25 and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, also made it into the charts. In terms of hardware, 335,000 games consoles were sold across tracked markets, a drop of 18% over September last year, with the PS5 remaining the top-selling console. The accessories market saw nearly 1.1 million items sold, a drop of 2.4% over September last year, with the PS5 DualSense controller leading the way.
