Sega's Shinobi Series Set for Big Screen Adaptation

The Shinobi series, a renowned Sega franchise, is slated to receive a film adaptation, marking the latest Sega property to make the leap to the big screen. In collaboration with Universal Pictures, the movie will be helmed by director Sam Hargrave, with Ken Kobayashi handling the screen adaptation. According to reports from GamesBeat, the film will be produced by Marc Platt and Adam Siegel through Marc Platt Productions. Story Kitchen, a prominent player in Hollywood's game-to-screen adaptations, including the Sonic film series, is also on board, with Dmitri M. Johnson serving as producer, Timothy I. Stevenson as co-producer and executive producer, and Mike Goldberg as executive producer. Toru Nakahara, Sega's senior executive officer overseeing film and television endeavors, will produce on behalf of Sega. With its origins dating back to 1987 as an arcade game, the Shinobi series has expanded to include over a dozen sequels and ports, despite its most recent release being in 2011 on the 3DS. In a related development, Devolver Digital has announced the launch of a new publishing label focused on independent games based on movie, television, comic book, and other entertainment IPs.
