Brazil Reverses Ban on X

The social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, has been reinstated in Brazil following a suspension that lasted over a month. According to a statement released by the country's supreme court, as reported by CNBC, Elon Musk's company has met the conditions set by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, allowing Brazilians to access the platform once again. In a post on its Global Government Affairs account, X expressed its pride in returning to Brazil, emphasizing the importance of providing access to its platform for tens of millions of Brazilians while committing to defend freedom of speech within the boundaries of the law. The ban on X in Brazil was initially imposed due to an investigation into the platform's role in spreading hate speech and misinformation, which violated federal laws. Elon Musk's refusal to comply with Brazilian regulations, including the requirement to appoint a legal representative for X in the country, led to the platform's ban on August 31. In a previous interview, Brazilian indie developers discussed the impact of the ban on their operations, with Luciana Guerrero, community and social manager at Rogue Snail, stating that while Twitter/X is a vital tool for reaching global audiences, the company cannot support Elon Musk's disregard for Brazilian laws. Guerrero emphasized that upholding legal orders is essential and that making exceptions for Twitter/X would set a dangerous precedent, suggesting that major fintech owners can operate in the country without accountability.
