Paradox Reflects on Bloodlines 2 Development Shift: A High-Risk Move to Save the Game

In a recent turn of events, Paradox Interactive reassigned the development of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 to The Chinese Room, a decision that marks a significant twist in the game's development journey. Initially slated for release in 2020, the game is now expected to launch in the first half of 2025. According to Mattias Lilja, Paradox's deputy CEO, the change in development teams was a necessary step to prevent the project from being cancelled altogether. Lilja explains that switching developers is a drastic measure, akin to a last resort before discontinuing a project. However, he believes that The Chinese Room's expertise and experience make them an ideal fit for the game. The new development team has built upon the foundation laid by the previous developer, Hardsuit Labs, while also bringing their own vision to the project. Lilja notes that The Chinese Room's stability and confidence in handling large-scale projects were key factors in the decision to partner with them. The game's development is now on track, with a release window set for the first half of 2025. Lilja also touches upon the game's direction, stating that it will be an action RPG steeped in the lore of the World of Darkness, with players likely to draw comparisons to the original Bloodlines and Dishonored. The Chinese Room's experience in crafting games with tight stories and settings is expected to bring a new level of depth to the game.
