Tencent and Guillemot Family Allegedly Planning to Acquire Ubisoft

According to reports, Tencent and the Guillemot family are exploring options to stabilize Ubisoft following recent challenges, potentially leading to a buyout. Sources indicate that the companies have consulted with advisors, although discussions are in the early stages and may not necessarily result in an acquisition. This development comes after a minority shareholder, AJ Investments, urged Ubisoft to go private due to significant declines in the company's stock price. With a current market capitalization of €1.4 billion, Ubisoft's shares have plummeted 54% this year, reaching a ten-year low after the underwhelming sales of Star Wars Outlaws. The Guillemot family, who founded Ubisoft and hold over 20% of the company's voting rights, are reportedly involved in the discussions, along with Tencent, which holds a 9.2% stake. In response to the rumors, Ubisoft stated that it regularly reviews its strategic options and will inform the market if necessary, while emphasizing its focus on executing its current strategy.
