Future Discontinues Play Magazine, a Long-Running PlayStation-Focused Publication

The UK's print gaming magazine landscape has been reduced further with the cancellation of Play. In a statement on social media, the magazine expressed its sadness in announcing that the upcoming issue would be its last. Play emerged as a replacement for the Official PlayStation Magazine, which ceased publication after 25 years in May 2021. Although it adopted a new name, Play retained the same editorial team and essentially continued the legacy of its predecessor, accumulating a four-year run and bringing the combined OPM and Play era to a close after nearly three decades. Editor Oscar Taylor-Kent reflected on the magazine's demise, drawing a parallel between the conclusion of a game and the end of the magazine's journey. He expressed gratitude to the final team members, acknowledging their contributions to his tenure across both OPM and Play. This development follows the shutdown of Game Informer, another long-running publication, which ended its 33-year run in August.
