Nintendo Intensifies Emulation Crackdown

The development of Switch emulator Ryujinx has reportedly ceased following a request from Nintendo, and the company has also issued a copyright strike against a YouTube channel that reviews retro handheld emulators. According to Ars Technica, Ryujinx was removed from GitHub after one of its developers revealed on social media that the emulator's creator, gdkchan, was contacted by Nintendo with an offer to stop working on the project and remove all related assets. While awaiting confirmation, the organisation was removed, suggesting the outcome. Meanwhile, the creator of YouTube channel Retro Game Corps, which primarily reviews modern handhelds running emulated titles, received a copyright strike from Nintendo. The YouTuber's Wii U video was taken down, despite being similar to previous reviews, and they are considering a counterclaim under fair use, as the video was educational and transformative. However, they are hesitant due to the potential for legal action from the corporation. As a result, the YouTuber will no longer show Nintendo games on screen and will blur any Nintendo-related content in existing videos. Nintendo's efforts to combat emulators are ongoing, with a recent example being its lawsuit against Yuzu, which resulted in a $2.4 million settlement.
