Epic Games Reduces Unreal Engine Royalty Fees for Simultaneous Releases on Its Store

Epic Games has announced a reduction in Unreal Engine royalty fees for developers who release their games on the Epic Games Store at or before the same time as other platforms. This new initiative, dubbed 'Launch Everywhere with Epic,' will take effect on January 1, 2025, and applies to all platforms where the Epic Games Store is available, including PC, Mac, Android, and upcoming iOS support. Developers who release their games on the Epic Games Store will also be eligible for the reduced royalty rate if their title is released on consoles. However, if a game is made available on another PC or Android store without being offered on the Epic Games Store, the royalty rate will revert to 5%. Epic Games stated that this move aims to assist developers in reaching broader audiences with more favorable terms, given the current pressure on profit margins in the gaming industry.
