Hi-Rez Studios Undergoes Restructuring, Resulting in Unspecified Job Cuts
Hi-Rez Studios has announced that it will be reducing its workforce as part of a broader internal reorganization and reprioritization strategy. According to CEO Stewart Chisam, the decision to lay off team members was necessary to ensure the company's long-term success, particularly in relation to positioning SMITE 2 for a sustainable future. The layoffs will primarily affect marketing and publishing roles, as well as certain development positions focused on cosmetic skin content and system features. Colleagues in the Evil Mojo, G&A, and Titan Forge divisions will also be impacted. Chisam expressed his gratitude to the affected employees, acknowledging the significant contributions they made to the company and its games. He took personal responsibility for the decision, emphasizing that it was not a reflection on the individuals' abilities or dedication. Moving forward, the studio will focus its efforts on Smite 2. This development follows a comprehensive review of the company's strategy and operations, with the goal of emerging stronger from the restructuring process. The news comes amid a challenging period for the industry, with other studios, such as XR Games and Sharkmob, also facing layoffs and restructuring.
