PS5 Full-Screen Ads Attributed to Technical Glitch by Sony

According to Sony, the full-screen promotional materials that unexpectedly appeared on PS5 dashboards after the latest update were the result of a technical error and have since been rectified. Players had previously expressed concern on social media when they discovered that Game Hubs were being taken over by full-screen advertisements, replacing the usual background images. For instance, hovering over Horizon Zero Dawn would redirect to an ad for Lego Horizon Adventures, with users at the time stating that these ads could only be disabled by disconnecting the console from the internet. In response, Sony's AskPlayStation account issued a statement on X/Twitter, attributing the issue to a technical error with the Official News feature on the PS5, which has now been resolved, and emphasizing that the way game news is displayed on the console remains unchanged.
