Nexon America Implements Limited Staff Reduction
Nexon America has undergone a round of layoffs, affecting an unspecified number of employees. According to Game Developer, the company stated that the layoffs would impact a limited number of staff members, citing a restructuring plan revealed earlier in the month as the reason. "As part of our reorganisation, we are eliminating a small number of positions and providing severance packages to those departing," the company explained. "However, we are currently recruiting to fill new development team positions, including engineers and designers." On September 3, Nexon's president and CEO, Junghun Lee, and CFO Shiro Uemura unveiled the company's mid-term growth strategy. This strategy includes a growth initiative and the establishment of the Western Development Group in Los Angeles, led by Hanbyeol Oh. The group is a key component of Nexon's "hyperlocalisation" strategy, which involves hiring local teams to tailor games to the preferences of players in regions such as Europe and North America. As Lee noted, "We are streamlining our organisational structure to focus on an IP growth initiative that can drive expansion within our existing IPs and develop new blockbuster titles."
