Grand Theft Auto 5 Regains Top Spot in August European Monthly Charts
European game sales saw an increase of 7% year-over-year in August, reaching 11.8 million console and PC games sold. According to the latest data from GSD, which tracks digital sales from major publishers and physical sales in key European markets, the rise in sales can be attributed to discounts and promotions on legacy titles, including Grand Theft Auto 5, which experienced a 5.7% year-over-year increase in sales. The launch of Star Wars Outlaws also contributed to the growth, securing the second spot in August's best-selling games. However, the game's first-week sales were less than half of those achieved by Star Wars Jedi: Survivor in 2023. Other notable games that climbed the charts include Kingdom Come Deliverance, which rose to fourth place after a significant price drop on Steam, and Borderlands 3, which saw a surge in sales following the release of the movie and the announcement of Borderlands 4. In contrast, Sony's Concord release failed to gain traction and was subsequently pulled from sale, ranking 347th in European sales for August. The console market saw a decline, with just over 300,000 units sold, representing a 42% drop from the previous year but a 12% increase from July. The PS5 remains the top-selling console, despite a significant year-over-year decline in sales, while the Nintendo Switch ranks second, with sales down 25% from the previous year. In the accessories market, 1.1 million items were sold, marking a 17% decline from the previous year.
