Indie Publisher Merge Games Shuts Down After 15-Year Run
After a decade and a half in operation, Merge Games has announced its closure, coming on the heels of a recent round of staff reductions and office shutdown. The independent game publisher, known for releasing titles such as Dead Cells and Darkest Dungeon, shared the news through a social media statement. Founded as a small startup 15 years ago, Merge Games grew into a 22-person team, publishing hundreds of indie games along the way. In their farewell message, the company expressed gratitude to the passionate individuals who contributed to their success, from developers to players. Earlier this month, it was reported that Merge Games had undergone an unspecified number of layoffs and closed its Chelford office. At the time, Maximum Entertainment CEO Christina Seelye stated that these moves were part of the company's broader consolidation strategy, which began in February. The remaining Merge Games portfolio will be absorbed into Maximum Entertainment, and we are awaiting further comment from the company.
