Gamurs Group Announces Additional Layoffs Among Employees

According to an update from an affected employee, 30 staff members were let go at 8am via email and had their access to Slack and company email accounts terminated immediately. The layoff email cited unprecedented industry shifts, specifically referencing Google's 2023 Helpful Content update and the decline in Google search and Discover traffic across all sites. A message from Gamurs Group's CEO, Riad Chikhani, and CCO, Kevin Morris, stated that these layoffs represent a significant restructuring of the business and its priorities. The message also announced changes to the pay structure for freelance writers to better reflect the value of more in-depth work. Initially, it was reported that Gamurs Group's various publications were impacted by another round of layoffs, with an unknown number of staff affected. Former employees took to social media to share the news, claiming the redundancies were made effective immediately via email. Those affected include several key staff members from Dot Esports, Twinfinite, Destructoid, and PC Invasion. This development follows previous redundancies made by Gamurs Group in July and the departure of several employees from The Escapist last November.
