Airship Syndicate Announces Further Staff Reductions
Airship Syndicate has confirmed the loss of an additional 16 positions. This move follows a previous round of layoffs in February 2024, which saw 12 employees let go. According to the company's CEO and president, the decision was made in response to the significant difficulties currently facing the industry. The CEO stated, 'Due to the challenging circumstances affecting our industry, we have been forced to make the difficult decision to part ways with some exceptionally skilled members of the Airship team, including 12 full-time staff and four contract workers.' Despite this reduction, the remaining 50-person team remains dedicated to fulfilling the Wayfinder roadmap and pursuing future projects. This development comes after Wayfinder's publisher, Digital Extremes, announced it would be dropping the title in November of last year, resulting in Airship Syndicate assuming full publishing control. Founded in 2014 and based in Austin, Texas, Airship Syndicate is navigating the challenges of the current industry landscape. The latest layoffs bring the total number of jobs lost in the gaming industry in 2024 to approximately 12,700.
