Metacore Halts Everdale Development and Returns Rights to Supercell
Metacore, a mobile gaming company, has announced the termination of its development on Everdale, a free-to-play village-building simulation game, and is returning the title to its original creator, Supercell. According to CEO Mika Tammenkoski, the decision to discontinue Everdale was a challenging one, driven by the team's failure to establish a profitable business model. Despite efforts to revamp the game and improve its market appeal, Metacore was unable to find a sustainable path forward. As a result, the company has relinquished its rights to the game, returning it to Supercell. Tammenkoski reflected on the experience, noting that while the project yielded valuable insights, it ultimately did not yield the desired outcome. The decision to end development on Everdale comes after Metacore acquired the title from Supercell in late last year, following Supercell's own cessation of development on the multiplayer mobile game in October 2022.
