Epic to Introduce Unified Fab Marketplace in Mid-October
Epic has unveiled plans to launch its unified Fab marketplace in October, integrating its diverse game asset stores into a single platform. Initially announced at GDC 2023, Fab aims to bring together Unreal Engine Marketplace, Sketchfab, ArtStation Marketplace, and Quixel under one roof. The revenue sharing model will mirror that of the Epic Games Store, with developers receiving 88% of sales revenue, and a limited-time offer of 100% revenue share until the end of 2024. To facilitate a smooth transition, Epic is inviting established Unreal Engine asset creators to utilize the Fab Publishing Portal, with new creators and publishers to be onboarded in early October. The Fab marketplace will eventually replace Unreal Engine Marketplace and Quixel, while Sketchfab's store will be phased out in the coming months, although the site will remain operational for private and public 3D model sharing. ArtStation's marketplace is slated for migration to Fab in 2025, with the sale of assets and products being relocated, while other site features will remain intact. Additionally, Epic will prioritize transparency regarding AI usage, requiring sellers to disclose the use of generative AI in asset creation and providing a 'NoAI' tag to prevent assets from being used for training genAI programs.
