IBM Secures $44.9 Million Victory in Patent Infringement Case Against Zynga

IBM has emerged victorious in its 2022 patent infringement case against Zynga, with a Delaware jury finding that Zynga's popular mobile game Farmville, along with several spin-off titles, infringed upon IBM's patents related to web-based communications. Other Zynga games accused of infringing IBM's patents include Crosswords With Friends, CSR Racing 2, Empires and Puzzles, Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells, Hit It Rich!, Wizard of Oz Slots, as well as Farmville 2, Farmville 2: Country Escape, Farmville 2: Tropic Escape, and Farmville 3. Despite denying the allegations, Zynga has been ordered to pay $44.9 million in damages. According to Zynga spokesperson Alan Lewis, the company is disappointed with the verdict and plans to appeal. In a separate development, Zynga recently abandoned its web3 project Sugartown and sold it to D20, a new company that announced the acquisition of all Sugartown products and assets from Zynga on social media earlier this month.
